Waxing in Ho Chi Minh City: 10 Before and After Care Tips

If you have decided to get waxed in Ho Chi Minh City, preparation before and care after make a big difference. Waxing is a good way to tidy up, but without preparation it can feel uncomfortable or disappointing. Your checklist before waxing

Half of a good waxing result is decided in preparation. Check these five points.

1. Exfoliate
A day or two before, wash the area well and gently exfoliate. Once dead skin is cleared, wax grips the hair better. Use light pressure, as rubbing hard can irritate the skin.

2. Let your hair grow
If hair is too short, wax cannot grip it, and if it is too long it can be uncomfortable. Wait until it is at least 0.5 cm, so wax can remove it from the root more easily, with about 1 cm being a good length. If you are unsure about the length, ask us when you book.

3. No moisturiser
On the day of your treatment, come without moisturiser or oil. A layer on the skin can stop wax from sticking to the hair. If your skin is dry, moisturise up to the day before.

4. Check your cycle
Skin can be more sensitive during your period, and many people feel more pain. Where possible, avoid it when booking, and ask us if the dates overlap. Walk-ins are welcome at Linh Lan (you may need to wait if we are fully booked), and you can change or cancel up to one day before.

5. Skin condition and allergies
If it is your first time or your skin is sensitive, tell us beforehand. Cuts, inflammation, badly sunburnt skin and past allergic reactions should be mentioned before treatment. We choose the method based on your skin.

Protecting your skin after waxing

Right after waxing, skin can be temporarily sensitive. If it is irritated, Linh Lan finishes with cooling air (about -30°C). At home, keep these five points in mind.

1. Avoid hot baths
Right after treatment, avoid hot baths, showers and saunas, and wash with lukewarm or cool water.

2. Use a soothing product
For reddened skin, apply aloe vera gel or a fragrance-free moisturiser in a thin layer.

3. Avoid harsh products
For 24 to 48 hours, avoid perfume, alcohol-based products and exfoliants.

4. Wear loose clothes
Tight clothes or non-breathable fabrics can irritate the skin through friction and sweat. Choose loose, breathable clothes.

5. Do not touch the area
Do not rub or touch the area, and keep it clean. After about a week, gently exfoliate and moisturise.
