Vietnam is hot and humid, with more swimwear and light clothes on a trip, so many travellers look into waxing before or during their visit. But waxing in an unfamiliar place raises worries about hygiene, pain and booking. This guide from Linh Lan Waxing in District 1, Saigon covers what to know before waxing in Vietnam and how to choose a waxing salon.

Preparing for waxing on a trip to Vietnam
01

Why do travellers wax in Vietnam?

  • Hot weather: Many people find it more comfortable to have hair tidied for sweaty daytime outings.
  • Swimwear and light clothes: Many want to tidy up for beach and pool days.
  • Fits into your schedule: It is quick to fit in during a trip, though leave some time around it.

Preparing before treatment

  • 2 to 3 days before: Gently exfoliate with a mild scrub.
  • The day before: Moisturise a little more than usual.
  • On the day: Do not apply moisturiser or oil. It can stop wax from gripping hair.
  • Hair length: Wait until hair is at least 0.5 cm so wax removes it from the root more easily. Skip shaving for a few days before your trip.

What to check when choosing a waxing salon

  • Hygiene: Can you see masks, gloves, single-use tools and how things are cleaned? At Linh Lan, therapists wear masks and medical-grade gloves, use single-use sticks, wipe skin with alcohol and keep tools in a UV steriliser.
  • Explaining the method: Do they explain what fits your area and skin? We use strips for larger areas (arms, legs) and hard wax for small, sensitive areas (bikini line, Brazilian, beard), choosing by your situation.
  • Booking and language: Is it easy to book and communicate? Walk-ins are welcome at Linh Lan (you may need to wait if we are fully booked), and Korean is supported with a translator.
  • Location: Is it close to where you are staying? Linh Lan is at 79 Pasteur, District 1, on the L2 floor (3rd floor in Korean counting).
  • Prices shown openly: Is there a public price list? Ours is on the price list page.

Aftercare

  • Soothe: If skin looks red right after, cool it gently. Linh Lan finishes with cooling air (about -30°C) if skin is irritated.
  • Avoid heat and friction: Skip saunas, hot showers and tight clothes on the day, and ideally for about 24 hours.
  • Sun: Do not expose the area to strong sun for long.
  • From a week later: Gently exfoliate and moisturise regularly.

When should I schedule it during my trip?

Avoid the time right before beach, pool or golf plans, and right before a flight. A day with some downtime afterwards is more comfortable.
