Bikini waxing and Brazilian waxing sound similar but differ in how much hair is removed, how long it takes, and how sensitive it feels. This guide from Linh Lan Waxing in District 1, Saigon explains the differences and how to choose. If it is your first time, use the criteria below to decide where to start. Pain and time vary by person and hair type.

Choosing between Brazilian and bikini waxing for women
01

What is bikini waxing?

Bikini waxing tidies hair around the bikini line, the part that shows outside underwear or a swimsuit. Because the area is small, it is a comfortable way to start if you are new to waxing.

  • Area: Mainly outside the bikini line (how far to go is decided in consultation)
  • Time: Roughly 15 to 30 minutes
  • Pain: Many people find it lower than Brazilian.
  • Types: A basic bikini line only, or a full bikini that takes a bit more from the front
02

What is Brazilian waxing?

Brazilian waxing covers a wider area from front to back, including around the rear. Many people choose it for a clean, tidy feel.

  • Area: The whole front and back area
  • Time: Roughly 30 to 60 minutes
  • Pain: Many people find it more sensitive than bikini.
  • Styles: Remove everything, or leave a shape you like (a strip, a triangle and so on)

Which should you choose?

  • Bikini waxing: If it is your first time, or you only want to tidy the line for a swimsuit or trip.
  • Brazilian waxing: If you want a wider tidy finish or already have waxing experience.

Either way, wait until hair is at least 0.5 cm. Wax can then remove it from the root more easily. If you are nervous, tell us when you book and we will explain the steps.

How we do it at Linh Lan

Small, sensitive areas such as the bikini line and Brazilian are done with hard wax (large areas like arms and legs use strips). If your skin is irritated afterwards, we finish with cooling air (about -30°C). Therapists wear masks and medical-grade gloves and use single-use sticks, and tools are kept in a UV steriliser. We have two treatment beds, so couples or friends can be treated together (divided by a curtain).

Our price list groups bikini and Brazilian into one item. Check current prices on the waxing price list. For men see male Brazilian waxing, for aftercare see waxing aftercare A to Z, and for laser see women’s Brazilian laser hair removal.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Should a first-timer start with bikini waxing?

Many people do because the area is small, but it depends on how much you want tidied. Let us know when you book.

Does it hurt a lot?

It depends on the area and the person. Brazilian is often felt as more sensitive than bikini.

Can I come during my period?

Skin can be more sensitive, so many people reschedule. If it overlaps with your booking, ask us.
